Former Washington Capitals star Nicklas Backstrom leaves the NHL behind and joins Brynäs IF after hip rehab

Nicklas Backstrom is returning to professional hockey in Sweden with Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League. The longtime Washington Capitals center stepped away from the NHL in 2023 to recover from a hip injury. Now 37, he feels fully healthy and energized to compete again this time on home ice and in front of Swedish fans.
