Mumbai Food Guide: Mumbaikars, Explore These Non-Veg Eateries For An Authentic Breakfast Experience

Kuckeliku Breakfast House

You wouldn't believe the vibrant boho-mixed-with-Scandinavian interiors that hide on the first floor of Kamal Mansion at Apollo Bandar, Colaba.

It’s as expressive as the restaurant’s onomatopoeic title. Kuckeliku Breakfast House is a name that some are well-acquainted with, while others have only heard of.

With a price rate of approximately ₹1300 for two, Kuckeliku’s menu is not for the faint of heart, spanning a wide range of morning meals — from energy bowls, to set breakfasts and wraps crowded with flavour. And, of course, the first meal of the day is not complete without their coffee, tea or fresh juice.

A few favourites that are worth coming back for include the Yoghurt Bowl variations (₹395), one topped with grilled plantain, cacao nibs, vanilla coconut chips and crushed peanuts; a balanced blend of sweet, slightly savoury and texture.

You'll want to save room for Kuckeliku’s Avo Toast (₹515) — a piece of sourdough adorned with sliced avocado, confit heirloom tomatoes, bell pepper coulis, whipped feta and Dukkah spice. Want to incorporate some more protein into your Avo Toast? The Avocado Benny (₹595) loads the toast with creamy spinach, smoked salmon, fried avocados and hollandaise, with a side of house potatoes.

And here’s a twist: Kuckeliku is pet-friendly!

The quality and flavour of the restaurant’s meals are certainly something to note. Bear in mind, it’s a popular Sunday stop, so if you’re after a calm start to the day, another morning might be a better bet.

Bombay Brioche

If your taste buds lean towards a cuisine similar to what Kuckeliku offers, try Bombay Brioche at 7 Bungalows, Andheri West. Costing approximately ₹800-1000 for two, this restaurant’s vivid menu platter is the model complement to Mumbai’s rainy days; a dollop of brightness amidst the bulky grey clouds.

From all that their menu offers, these are a few crowd favourites. First up, the Korean Egg Sando (₹349): Korean-inspired fluffy eggs, coleslaw and pickled beetroot between two Brioche slices, served with a side of hot sauce. But that’s not all. Bombay Brioche’s Caprese Sandwich (₹329) offers an organic and refreshing combination of focaccia, homemade pesto, ripe tomatoes, bocconcini and fragrant basil.

A sandwich might not be everyone’s idea of breakfast. And soup? Even less so. But Bombay Brioche’s warm and creamy Roasted Pumpkin Soup (₹249), served with a slice of sourdough bread, flips the script. And once you’ve spotted the soup, it’s hard to close the menu without adding their praised bombollinis to the table; one with Nutella (₹229) or the other, which fuses Nutella and salted caramel (₹249).

For the coffee-lovers reading this, end your Bombay Brioche breakfast with a steaming cup of their cappuccino (₹219). You won’t be sorry.

KMC Bar and Bistro

Chose to sleep in this morning? If you’re looking for a more unique take on brunch, experience what KMC Bar and Bistro has to offer — with branches at Pirojshanagar and Fort. Its rustic-meets-street-style aesthetic, blended with their menu of seasonal ingredients and continental classics, makes for a one-of-a-kind Mumbai brunch.

Here’s a few picks from their menu. The KMC Aloo Tikki (₹550) marries Indian and continental flavours: a house-baked brioche bun, topped with aged cheddar cheese, a green pea and potato patty, Chipotle mayo, fresh tomatoes and onions.

Another unexpected brunch item is KMC’s Broken Tortilla (₹500) large plate — a crispy tortilla topped with sunny side up eggs, refried beans, salsa verde, chilli oil crisp and sharp cheddar cheese.

Keep in mind, KMC's menu includes alcohol, which increases the price, respectively. Additionally, KMC offers a ₹1200 all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch with a changing menu. If you’re looking for a brunch packed with a few surprises in Mumbai, KMC is the place to go!

Bombay To Barcelona Library Café

Bombay To Barcelona Library Café blends your love of reading with a breakfast fusion of Indian and Spanish cuisine. But this spot on Makwana Road in Marol, Andheri East, serves more than F&B; it stands for an important social cause.

The employees working behind the counter used to live on the streets and/or were orphaned. The Library Café’s founder Amin Sheik — who, too, grew up on the streets of Mumbai — ensures that the proceeds from the café are used to pay their salaries, housing, medical expenses and support their aspirations — all of which to an equal degree.

Bombay To Barcelona Library Café is the first eatery in the city that doesn’t ban the entry of anyone due to their social status. And their menu offers a hearty breakfast with a fresh combination of flavours, all from a price point of ₹850 for two.

Start your day here with a warm cup of Masala Chai (₹140), or another cayenne-spiced alternative: Spanish Hot Chocolate (₹240). Their breakfast menu offers poha, upma, classic morning omlettes, and tapas straight from a Spanish kitchen — like Patatas Bravas (₹220), which fries cubed potatoes and dresses them with a spicy “brava” sauce, or Croquetas de pollo (₹300); a chicken-filled patty that is breaded and fried. Aside from Spain, The Library Café’s menu also travels to France with their array of sweet and savoury crêpes.

Zane's Café

This list ends in Mathuradas Mill Compound, Lower Parel — at Zane's Café.

This spot does your eggs the classic way and the ‘Zane way,’ like their mouth-watering Chilli Labneh Eggs (₹380): two poached eggs on a bed of garlic yoghurt, topped with house-made chilli oil, served with a single slice of toasted sourdough.

This breakfast spot, folded within Lower Parel's winding lanes, commences the battle of the avocado toasts. While the classic is a popular item on Zane's menu, their Hummus Toast is growing increasingly popular (base price of ₹400) — with a variety of toppings for you to choose from.

But, if you’re still craving a novel avocado breakfast, Zane's Café pairs grilled chicken breast trips, hummus, arugula, tomatoes and gherkins with sliced avocado in their Chicken, Hummus and Avo Sandwich (₹590).

And, like Kuckeliku, Zane's welcomes pets. If you're looking to enjoy Mumbai's breakfast with your fluffy ones, this Lower Parel café is definitely worth visiting.

This list is just a snapshot of the menus and ambiance of several breakfast spots scattered across the city — whether their names are portrayed in big, bold letters, or they are hidden amidst buildings and tight gullies — waiting for you to try them.
