Tsunami threat in India and the Indian Ocean after massive earthquake in Russia? Here’s what the Indian Tsunami Warning Advisory Service said

An 8.8-magnitude quake set off a tsunami in the northern Pacific region and prompted warnings for Alaska, Hawaii and other coasts south toward New Zealand. According to the reports, Tsunami warning sirens blared on Tuesday in Honolulu and people moved to higher ground.
A tsunami measuring 40 centimeters (1.3 feet) was detected in Tokachi, on the southern coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost of the country’s main islands, the Japan Meteorological Agency said on Wednesday. The Russian areas nearest the quake’s epicenter on the Kamchatka Peninsula reported damage and evacuations, but no serious injuries.
Tsunami threat in India and the Indian Ocean?
INCOIS on Wednesday confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to India or the Indian Ocean region in connection with this earthquake. “The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) Tsunami Warning Centre has reported that an earthquake of magnitude 8.7 was detected on 30 July 2025 at 04:54 IST (29 July 2025 at 23:24 UTC). The earthquake occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka, at the coordinates 52.57°N, 160.08°E. INCOIS has confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to India or the Indian Ocean region in connection with this earthquake.
California governor Newsom urges residents to heed local tsunami advisories
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been updated on the tsunami advisory issued in the wake of the massive earthquake off Russia’s coast, according to a statement from his press office shared on X. “We encourage everyone to stay alert and follow guidance from local emergency personnel,” the message said.
