Russia Earthquake BIG Updates: Tsunami warning issued for US, China, Peru after 8.7 quake struck Kamchatka

New Delhi: A massive earthquake of magnitude 8.8 struck Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula early on Wednesday. The earthquake generated a tsunami of up to 4 metres (13 feet). The quake damaging buildings, and prompting evacuation warnings in the area several areas in Japan and the United States. “Today’s earthquake was serious and the strongest in decades of tremors,” Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov said in a video posted on the Telegram messaging app, adding that a kindergarten was damaged due to strong tremors. It is important to note that the first tsunami wave hit the coastal area of Severo-Kurilsk, the main settlement on Russia’s Kuril Islands in the Pacific, according to the local governor, Valery Limarenko. A tsunami with a height of 3-4 metres (10-13 feet) was also recorded in parts of Kamchatka.
