UPI Payment Rules: Now UPI payment will be done without PIN, with just one touch and face, the biggest change is going to happen
A new method of UPI payment may soon be introduced in India, in which payment can be made using biometric identification (fingerprint, face ID) instead of PIN. Know how this will benefit the common users, how this system will work and what precautions will have to be taken in this.
UPI Payment Rules: India is playing a leading role in the world of digital payments, and now another big change can come to the fore. Soon the need for PIN for UPI transactions in the country may end. Instead, payments can be authenticated with biometric verification such as fingerprint, face ID and iris scan. NPCI is working on this new technology and it can be launched for general users in the future.
This step will be especially beneficial for those users who find it difficult to remember UPI PIN, or are less educated. Fraud can also be prevented to a great extent through biometric payment as this system will be based on unique bio data.
How will biometric payment work?
According to Business Standard, under this system, users will no longer need to enter a PIN for UPI payments. Instead, users will be able to make payments through their biometric identity such as fingerprint, face scan or iris scan. This facility is considered especially beneficial for those users who have difficulty remembering PIN or who are lagging behind in digital literacy.
The payment process can be something like this:
- After scanning the QR code, the option of biometric verification will appear instead of PIN.
- After verifying with the fingerprint scanner or the phone’s Face ID, the payment will be automatically confirmed.
- The direct link between Aadhaar and NPCI will make this process possible, which will keep the transaction secure as well as easy.
Talking about safety and security
Biometric based payment system is considered safe because the user’s personal data (such as fingerprint and face details) is directly linked to the UPI transaction. This makes it almost impossible for someone else to make payment. However, some cyber experts are also saying that the possibility of leakage of biometric data should also be taken seriously. For this, the government and NPCI are already working on the necessary security measures. All biometric data will be kept in encrypted form and no one will be able to access it without the user’s permission.
A boon for less educated users and the elderly
This new feature is especially useful for those rural or elderly users who have trouble using a smartphone or remembering a PIN. They just have to put their thumb or come in front of the phone’s camera screen, and the payment will be done. In markets, shops, or villages where the reach of digital payments is still low, biometric UPI payments can make a big difference.
