Prepare action plans to curb accidents: Shimla DC

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, on Monday directed officials concerned to analyse accidents occurring in their respective areas and to prepare localised action plans to effectively reduce road mishaps. He also directed the Transport Department to prepare a district-level road safety booklet, to be used in awareness campaigns.

He gave these directions while presiding over the road safety awareness workshop in which officials of various departments, including police, education and health.

Sharing details about the ‘Rah Veer Yojana’, the DC said any person who helps transport a road accident victim to the hospital is eligible for a reward of Rs 25,000. He stressed the need to create widespread public awareness about this scheme so that people help accident victims without hesitation.

He added that accident victims are entitled to free treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh in government-recognised hospitals without any advance payment or formal procedures. He urged all the departments to give special attention to promoting this scheme.

The DC further stated that being the state’s capital, police personnel in Shimla face unique challenges, therefore, equipping the police personnel with all necessary resources will remain a priority for the district administration.
