One snake per square metre: How the Snake Island turned no-go zone teeming with thousands of snakes
Off Brazil's coast lies Ilha da Queimada Grande, or Snake Island, a place so dangerous it's forbidden to the public. Home to the critically endangered golden lancehead viper, its venom is potent enough to cause necrosis and even death. Isolation led these snakes to evolve rapidly, preying on birds with highly toxic venom.
