Made on Rs 70 crores, THIS film of Ajay Devgn was a superflop, failed to even recover its cost, film is.., earned Rs…

In the unpredictable world of Bollywood, the destiny of a star changes with every Friday. Some films break records and sometimes redefine the career of a star; others don’t make quite a mark. One such example of this is a celebrated Bollywood star who tasted the bitterness of a box office disaster.

The actor that we are talking about is none other than Ajay Devgn, and one of his massive budget films wasn’t just a flop, but this cinematic misadventure also shocked even the most loyal fans.

Ajay Devgn’s Mega Flop Film

Released three years ago, this film was none other than Thank God. The film featured Ajay Devgn alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh. This film amalgamated the concept of mythology with modern storytelling. Ajay Devgn portrayed the role of a modern-day Chitragupt, divine accountant of human karma. However, he is in the skin of a modern man wearing a suited-booted outfit. But unfortunately, this couldn’t resonate with the audience, and critics and moviegoers alike found the storyline confusing and the execution lackluster.

The film was directed by the celebrated filmmaker Indra Kumar, who balanced humour and spiritual drama but failed to strike a chord with viewers. The plot of the film revolved around Sidharth Malhotra’s character, Ayaan Kapoor, a real estate broker who, after a fatal accident, finds himself in the afterlife, confronting Chitragupt. The film emphasises this afterlife game between Ajay and Sidharth, but unfortunately, neither the emotional appeal nor the comedic elements could save it.

How Much Did It Earn?

Made on a whopping budget of Rs 70 crores, this film failed to even recover its cost. In India, the film could only collect Rs 36.35 crore, while the global collection stalled at ₹48.99 crore. Some even labelled it Ajay Devgn’s most disappointing film ever.

Fans who had high hopes for this film were also taken aback. The concept of karma and spiritual judgment was intriguing, but the film’s attempt to modernize it backfired. Viewers found it hard to digest the image of a divine being dressed like a corporate CEO.

While Ajay continues to dominate headlines with his upcoming film Son of Sardaar 2, this past misstep is a reminder that sometimes even the biggest Bollywood names fail to impress the audience despite their major fan following.
