'The Social Network' sequel: What to expect from Aaron Sorkin's follow-up to David Fincher's film

It was recently reported that a sequel to David Fincher's The Social Network is in development, with that film's Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin, also a filmmaker in his own right, taking on directing duties this time around. We had also learned that the original cast members may not be playing the leads this time around, but two new characters based on real-life individuals, in an account of true events tied to Facebook.

The new film be based on 'The Facebook Files', a series of articles written by former Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, who is said to be the lead character alongside Frances Haugen, the data engineer-turned-whistleblower who called out some of the company's disagreeable practices.

There is buzz from different corners that the film would along the lines of acclaimed whistleblower dramas like The Insider and Spotlight.

As per a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Mikey Madison ("Anora") and Jeremy Allen White ("The Bear") have been approached for the parts of Haugen and Horwitz, respectively. There is no confirmation of these actors signing the dotted lines yet. Sorkin has been in discussions with multiple cast members, and Madison and White would make for a perfect fit for the film given their currently popularity with audiences worldwide, which the makers could capitalise on, if they indeed join the project.

Madison took home the Best Actress trophy at this year's Oscars for Anora. Meanwhile, White was recently seen in the fourth season of the immensely popular show The Bear. He will be next seen in the Bruce Springsteen biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.
