According to sources, Satish Golcha, a seasoned 1992-batch IPS officer and current Director General of Tihar Jail, is poised to take on the additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner.

Meanwhile, The Tribune has learnt that an additional security deployment has been put into force outside the house of IPS Satish Golcha.

As of now, no official confirmation has come regarding the appointment the new Police Commissioner (CP).

The ceremonial parade for CP is given to the outgoing officer and as per the convention, the new appointee too joins the parade, marking a symbolic transfer of power.

However, this tradition has been given a go-by since 2022 when outgoing CP Rakesh Asthana was sent off but Arora was appointed in the evening on July 31, 2022.

Arora, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, took over as Delhi Commissioner on August 1, 2022, succeeding Rakesh Asthana.

During his time, the capital witnessed gang wars, extortion threats, cyber frauds, bomb scare incidents, two blasts in Rohini, arrest of top AAP leadership — including former CM Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, among others — and the Shraddha Walkar murder case.

Arora, who was considered media shy, did not hold any press conference during his tenure as the CP, Delhi Police.

The Police Control Room (PCR) unit, which had been merged with the law and order wing during the tenure of Arora’s predecessor, was reinstated as an independent unit.
