‘They left me bleeding…’: Indian-origin man suffers fractured cheekbone after brutal attack in alleged hate crime in Ireland
An Indian-origin man named Santosh Yadav has said that he was attacked in a racist incident near his home in Ireland’s capital Dublin. In a long post on LinkedIn, Santosh shared that he was out for a walk after dinner when a group of six teenagers suddenly attacked him from behind. They took his glasses and broke them, then started hitting him badly.
He said the group punched and kicked him on his head, face, neck, chest, arms, and legs, leaving him bleeding on the ground. “They snatched my glasses, breaking them, and then beat me relentlessly across my head, face, neck, chest, hands, and legs leaving me bleeding on the pavement,” he added.
Somehow, Santosh managed to call the police (Gardaí). An ambulance soon came and took him to Blanchardstown Hospital. Doctors there told him that his cheekbone was broken and sent him to see a specialist for further treatment.
He further added that what happened to him was not just a one-off case. He pointed out that racist attacks on Indian men and other minority groups are rising in Dublin. These incidents are happening in public places like buses, streets, and housing areas.
Request for action
Requesting authorities to take action against the people racially targeting minorities, Yadav tagged several government agencies, including the Government of Ireland, the Embassy of India in Dublin, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, and Akhilesh Mishra in the post.
“We deserve to feel safe. We deserve to walk on the streets without fear,” he added and concluded the post with two photos. One of showing blood dripping down his nose and cheek, and the other of a pair of broken glasses.
He also mentioned a recent similar case, where on July 19, a 33-year-old Indian-origin man in Melbourne, Australia, was attacked with a machete by a group of teenagers in the Altona Meadows area.
Santosh Yadav’s education
Santosh Yadav completed his BTech from Kanpur University in India and then decided to pursue PhD from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, Ghaziabad. Currently, he works as a Senior Data Scientist living in Dublin, Ireland and is also the co-founder of a tech company.
