End of an era: Lt Gen N.S. Raja Subramani concludes four-decade military career

Marking the end of an illustrious military career spanning nearly four decades, Lieutenant General N.S. Raja Subramani superannuated on Thursday and relinquished the appointment as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS).

 

Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh will replace him as the new VCOAS on Friday (August 1).

 

Lt Gen Subramani's journey in uniform began at the National Defence Academy. He was commissioned into The Garhwal Rifles in December 1985.

 

According to a defence ministry statement, Lt Gen Subramani is an "officer of exceptional academic calibre," and holds a Master of Arts degree from King’s College, London, and an M.Phil. in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.

He has held a wide range of command, staff, and instructional appointments across diverse operational and terrain profiles during his 39 years of service.

 

A recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal, Lt Gen Subramani's "deep understanding of strategic and tactical dynamics, particularly along the Western and Northern borders, has significantly contributed to operational preparedness and national security," the ministry said.

 

 

"The Indian Army extends its heartfelt appreciation for his exemplary service spanning nearly four decades and extends its best wishes for continued success and distinguished accomplishments in all his future endeavours," the defence ministry added.
