Russell Crowe plays Hitler's right-hand man in James Vanderbilt's 'Nuremberg'

The Nuremberg trails is once again the subject of another cinematic adaptation, this time from writer-filmmaker James Vanderbilt. Russell Crowe plays Hitler's right-hand man and Nazi war criminal Hermann Göring in Nurmberg, a psychological thriller with Rami Malek in the role of his psychiatrist Douglas Kelly, in addition to Michael Shannon, Richard E Grant, and Leo Woodall.

Based on the book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist” by Jack El-Hai, Nuremberg depicts the famous trials where the Allies tried Nazi officers who were convicted of numerous war crimes. Previously, the trials were the subject of the 1961 film Judgement of Nuremberg, albeit as a fictionalised dramatisation.

Vanderbilt's film, however, focuses on a different angle, that of American pyschiatrist Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek) who is assigned the job of evaluating which Nazi prisoners are fit for standing trial and the complications he encounters in the case of Hermann, the founder of the notorious Gestapo.

The film will first have a theatrical release in November, followed by its streaming premiere on Sky Cinema in January 2026.

In a statement, Sky’s Head of Original Film Andrew Orr said, “Nuremberg stands as a bold and important project from acclaimed filmmaker James Vanderbilt. We’re proud to present it to UK audiences as a Sky Original: with its stellar cast and timely subject matter, this film represents the kind of ambitious storytelling we’re committed to championing at Sky.”

Also starring John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Lydia Peckham, Wrenn Schmidt, Lotte Verbeek, and Andreas Pietschmann, the film is produced by Walden Media, Bluestone Entertainment, and Mythology Entertainment, with WME Independent handling global distribution rights.

Vanderbilt is known for the scripts of David Fincher's Zodiac, The Amazing Spiderman and its sequel, and others. He has also executive produced shows like Altered Carbon and The Night Agent, aside from being a producer on films such as Ready or Not and Abigail.
