How long will Sirsa wait for a Tehsildar? Land registrations hit by delay, confusion

In Sirsa, the land registration process at the e-Disha Centre has slowed down tremendously. People are forced to wait for days even after getting a token. The main reason behind this delay is the absence of a full-time tehsildar. A month ago, the previous tehsildar, Bhuvnesh Kumar, was suspended due to an alleged bribery scandal. Since then, the registry work has been handed over to other officers, but the system is not functioning smoothly. Long queues, frustrated residents and poor management have created a serious crisis. People are demanding quick action, but so far, only temporary steps have been taken. The pressure continues to mount on the Naib Tehsildar, who is left to handle everything alone.

Why is the land registration work delayed in Sirsa?

The main reason for the delay is that no new tehsildar has been appointed after the previous tehsildar, Bhuvnesh Kumar, was suspended immediately by the government after MLA Gokul Setia shared a CCTV video on social media, where Bhuvnesh was allegedly seen talking about bribe-related matters. Since then, registry duties were given to the Naib Tehsildar, District Revenue Officer (DRO), and Subdivisional Magistrate (SDM), but only the Naib Tehsildar is actively doing the work.

How are people being affected by the delay?

People are waiting for days despite having valid tokens. For example, Kamal Singla, a resident, received a token for Monday, but his work was only completed on Thursday. Registrations are only marked after 2 pm, and the centre shuts by 5 pm, leaving many without service. Even on working days, the delays are common and when the Naib Tehsildar is absent, no work is done at all.

What are officials saying about the situation?

Naib Tehsildar Subhash Chandra admitted that the workload was too much for him to handle. He said the staff was new and untrained, adding to the delays. He also had duties in other areas, including court appearances. The DRO, Sanjay Chaudhary, said he refused to take on tehsildar duties because it was a lower position than his current role.

Has anything improved after the issue was highlighted?

After a news report in The Tribune on July 29, the number of staff members at the e-Disha Centre was increased from two to four. However, the workload on the Naib Tehsildar has not reduced, and people still have to visit the office repeatedly. Without appointing a new tehsildar, the problem is far from over.
