Court grants 6 days police remand of accused in road-rage incident

JAMMU, July 31: 3rd Additional Munsiff Jammu Arvind Manhas has remanded Manan Anand, a resident of Nanak Nagar Extension, main accused in Thar road rage,  to six days of police custody in connection with FIR registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar under Sections 281, 125(a), and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused was produced before the court and the Investigating Officer, PSI Mohd Ilyas submitted an application seeking nine days’ police remand, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the need for further investigation.
“The investigation is at a preliminary stage and one of the charges — Section 109 BNS — is of a serious and non-bailable nature”, the court observed. After reviewing the case diary and the medical fitness certificate of the accused, the court granted six days police custody from July 31 to August 5.
The court directed the police to produce the accused before a competent court before the expiry of the remand period and instructed that he be medically examined every 24 hours.
