Three girls win laurels for Ludhiana in CBSE U-14 table tennis tournament
Three city-based girls at the age of 13 have brought laurels to the city by winning gold medals in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Cluster Table Tennis Tournament Under-14 Category. Now, these girls have started the preparation for the upcoming CBSE national table tennis tournament to be held in Surat, Gujarat, where the trio will represent Punjab. This tournament was held in Kapurthala from July 26 to 29.
The talented young girls, Kavya Gupta, Shanaya Goyal and Gauranshi Uppal, study in Delhi Public School, Ludhiana. They were also honoured by the school management and school authorities, which offered full support to the players so that they could prepare well and win the upcoming national-level tournament for the state.
Ashwani Goyal, a veteran table tennis player and vice-president of the District Table Tennis Association, Ludhiana, said that the management and teachers of the school congratulated the team for their tremendous victory in the state-level CBSE cluster championship. These girls as a team defeated DAV International School, Amritsar, in the semifinal and defeated Spring Dale School, Amritsar, in the finals.
Goyal said these girls had been trained by Gurmeet Singh, a coach at the Lodhi Club, Ludhiana. Now, further coaching of these girls will continue at Lodhi Club under the supervision of Gurmeet. “Apart from the training at Lodhi Club, the girls will also practice at the Table Tennis Academy situated at Rakh Bagh Sports Complex in Ludhiana.
“These three girls have also won several district, state and national-level awards in various table tennis tournaments held across the state and country. The way these players have been excelling in table tennis, in the coming years they will definitely play for the country and will shine the name of the country at the international level,” asserted Goyal.
Speaking about her achievement, Kavya said she felt on cloud nine after winning this precious medal. Now, she will continue to practice hard to reach the next level. Shanaya said her coach Gurmeet Singh had been imparting professional training and he left no stone unturned to teach them best tactics and moves in this sport.
Gauranshi said she and other co-players Shanaya and Kavaya had already started practising together with much more energy to represent Punjab for the upcoming CBSE national-level tournament to be held in Gujarat, though the date of which is yet to be announced.
