'Priest King Modi' trends amid Donald Trump's 25 per cent tariff blow on India

Even as the blanket 25 per cent tariff on all Indian-origin goods imposed by US President Donald Trump is set to come into effect in a few days,  the phrase 'Priest King Modi' began trending on social media platforms, particularly on X.

While not all tweets were in praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there were many supporters who said Trump should now watch out. It is to be noted that one of the immediate reactions to the announcement of this blanket tariff was that India may not be in favour of procuring fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter jets, which Trump had pitched to India a few months ago.

The phrase was in fact a mix of satire and political commentary referencing Modi's leadership style, with many claiming that despite all the odds against him, Modi always triumphs.

"Priest king theory is real it made Modi more stronger," claimed one user.

"reason why we Support Our Priest King Narendra Modi 👑

Because he leads with vision, strength, and unwavering commitment to Bharat’s pride and security," another user wrote.

"If the downfall of Trump begins after this, I will agree that Modi is indeed 'Priest King'," a user wrote.

"Modi is the leader of largest political party in the world, leader of largest democracy in the world, elected for 3 straight consecutive terms in a country of 2500 political parties. People call him The Priest King for a reason," another comment read.

This meme-wave has been amplified by the critics of the prime minister and social media commentators, who link it to Modi’s silence on the tariffs.
