Gajapati: Peon Arrested for Allegedly Giving Urine Instead of Water to Engineer

Bhubaneswar: A peon at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Department in Odisha’s Gajapati district has been arrested for allegedly handing a bottle of urine to his senior officer instead of drinking water.

The accused, Subash Chandra Behera, was taken into custody by R. Udayagiri police after Assistant Executive Engineer Guruprasad Pattnayak lodged a formal complaint. The incident occurred on the night of July 23 while both were working late at the RWSS office.

According to the complaint, Pattnayak had asked Behera for a bottle of water. In low lighting and under work-related stress, he consumed some of the liquid given to him, only to later realize it was not water. He soon fell ill and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Laboratory tests reportedly confirmed unusually high levels of ammonia in the sample, suggesting serious contamination. Pattnayak claimed that two other staff members who shared the water also complained about its taste and quality.

Following his recovery, Pattnayak filed a police report, prompting an investigation. Authorities have registered a case under relevant legal provisions and are probing the motive behind the incident, as per reports.
