Pune Horse Racing: Alpgonquin Out To Redeem Reputation In Sprungli Plate

Alpgonquin, who failed to make a lasting impression in his seasonal debut in Mumbai, will be looking to set the record straight and make amends when he lines up for the Sprungli Plate — the main event on the third day of the Pune racing season, scheduled to be held at the iconic Pune Race Course here on Saturday. This will also mark the first of the Saturday fixtures in the current monsoon meeting.

Trained by veteran handler Dallas Todywalla, the colt showed flashes of potential in his earlier outings but could not live up to expectations in his last run. However, with a change in tactics and conditions expected to suit him better, Alpgonquin will be hoping to turn things around. He will be partnered by jockey Vivek G, whose recent form has been promising.

Alpgonquin’s biggest threat could come from the debutant Charisse, a well-bred youngster making maiden appearance on the turf. Though lacking in experience, the colt has been showing encouraging form in her morning trials and is expected to run a bold race on debut.

The contest promises to be a fascinating clash of potential and promise, with both runners eager to prove their credentials early in the season.
