Car plunges into Yamuna canal, woman’s body recovered, husband still missing

A tragic accident occurred on late Thursday night in the city when a Creta car plunged into the Western Yamuna Canal near the Kaithal road bridge. The vehicle had two occupants — a 43-year-old Amit Miglani, and his wife Nisha Miglani (40) — residents of Sector 13 in the city.

The body of the woman was recovered, while efforts were on to search for Amit in the canal with the help of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team and local divers. Amit runs a furniture house in Assandh.

Ram Nagar SHO Inspector Mahavir said the incident took place around 9.45 pm when the couple’s car fell into the canal while they travelling on the western bypass. Investigation was on to find whether it was a hit-and-run case or something else, he said.

After receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The woman was pulled out of the canal and rushed to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Later, the car was also retrieved from the canal with the help of a crane after a couple of hours of joint efforts by rescue teams and local residents. Divers are searching for Amit in the canal. The authorities fear that he might have been swept away by the strong currents in the canal.

“We are making efforts to search for Amit. Divers and the SDRF team are searching for him in the canal,” the SHO said.
