Pothole-ridden road troubles Jhajjar shopkeepers, commuters

Potholes developed on the stretch from Silani Gate to Delhi Gate in Jhajjar city are causing inconvenience to commuters and residents alike. Shopkeepers on both sides of the road are also facing hardship due to dust generated by the road’s deteriorated condition. However, they are experiencing some relief from the dust due to the rains these days.

Rickshaw pullers and other vehicle operators are among the worst affected. Baljeet, a rickshaw puller, recalled an incident a few months ago when his rickshaw overturned due to the damaged road. “I was carrying three rechargeable batteries. All of them broke when the rickshaw overturned,” he said.

Shivam, a local shopkeeper, said the road had been damaged for a long time, but the authorities had turned a blind eye. “Not only shopkeepers but also customers suffer daily, as they are forced to navigate the pothole-ridden stretch. The authorities should act immediately to repair it,” he urged.

Another shopkeeper, speaking on condition of anonymity, complained about the persistent dust settling on goods inside the shops. “The dust is ruining our stock. Despite frequent visits by administrative officials, no attention has been paid to the road’s condition. The government must intervene at the earliest,” he demanded.

Naresh, a regular commuter, said, “I often use this road to buy essentials, but the dust irritates my eyes and the potholes make riding mobike a challenge.”

When contacted, Sumit, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), said the tender for repairing the road from Silani Gate to Agrasen Chowk had already been floated. “Work will commence as soon as the tender is allotted,” he confirmed.
