2,000 note came in 2016
₹ 2000 note was issued in November 2016 under Section 24(1) of the Reserve Bank of India Act 1934. The main purpose was to quickly meet the country’s currency needs when the old ₹500 and ₹1000 notes were demonetised. When this purpose was met and sufficient number of notes of other denominations became available, printing of ₹2000 notes was discontinued in 2018-19. Most of the ₹2000 notes were issued before March 2017 and have now reached the end of their expected life (4-5 years). It has also been observed that the ₹2000 note is not commonly used in transactions.
