The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in many states from August 1 to August 6-7. The pace of rain may increase especially in North-West India, Northeast, Central and Eastern states. Due to continuous rains, waterlogging in low-lying areas and landslide-like situation may arise in hilly areas. At the same time, there may be some relief in South India at the moment as the intensity of rain is expected to decrease here. The Meteorological Department has advised people to be alert and take necessary precautions. There is also a possibility of school closure or traffic being affected in some states in the coming days. Possibility of torrential rains in the states of North India

Heavy rains are expected in hilly states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in North India from August 2 to 7. On the other hand, there is a warning of heavy rain in many areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, eastern and western Uttar Pradesh, western and eastern Rajasthan on August 3 and 4. The Meteorological Department says that incidents of thunderstorms and lightning may also occur during this period. The risk of landslides may increase in hilly areas, due to which vigilance is extremely important.

Heavy rain alert in Northeast India

There is a possibility of heavy rain in Northeast India as well. On August 2, very heavy rains may occur at some places in Assam and Meghalaya. Apart from this, light to moderate and heavy rains are also likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between August 1 and 6. The water level of rivers may rise in these areas, which may lead to flood situation.

Heavy rains also expected in Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal

Heavy rains are also forecast in the states of eastern and central India like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Monsoon rains will remain active in these states from August 2 to 7. Heavy rains may occur especially in North Bengal and Sikkim between August 2 and 4. Heavy rains are also expected in some areas of Bihar on August 2 and 3.

Rain with lightning and thunder in plains

The plains of North India i.e. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh will continue to receive light to moderate rain for the next 5-7 days. There is a possibility of lightning with strong winds and thunder at many places. Due to this, farmers and common people have been advised to remain alert.

There may be some relief in rain in South India

While the rest of the country is receiving heavy rains, the pace of rain in South India may slow down a bit. Although intermittent light rains will continue in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, but the effect is likely to be less now.

Due to heavy rains in many states, conditions like waterlogging in low-lying areas, road blockages, overflowing of rivers and streams and landslides can occur. It has been advised to take special precautions especially while traveling in hilly areas. The Meteorological Department has also instructed the local administration to remain on alert.
