Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco right-back Achraf Hakimi was asked by French prosecutors on Friday to face trial for the rape of a woman in 2023, an allegation he denies.
The 26-year-old Hakimi, who became an "alpha" for chauvinistic social media trolls over a viral story of transferring his wealth under his mother's name to avoid paying alimony to his partner, is accused of raping a then-24-year-old woman in Paris. The Nanterre prosecutor's office told news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) that they had requested that the investigating judge refer the rape charge to a criminal court. "It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the framework of his order," the prosecutor's office told AFP in a statement.
Hakimi is in excellent form, playing a crucial role in PSG's UEFA Champions League triumph. The Parisians also managed to reach the summit clash of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, where they were beaten by Chelsea.
According to news reports, the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by the Moroccan at his residence in the Boulogne-Billancourt suburb of Paris. On February 25, 2023, Hakimi's wife and children left for a holiday and Hakimi paid for the survivor to come and visit him. The two had been in touch on social media for over a month. The footballer reportedly paid for the taxi she took. She told the police that Hakimi kissed her without her permission repeatedly at the apartment before making physical advances. Despite her attempts to make him stop, Hakimi raped her that night, the police were told.
The woman said that she finally managed to flee the place after she got an opportunity to text a friend who later arrived at the footballer's door to pick her up.
The woman refused to make a formal accusation against the former Real Madrid player, but the prosecutors decided to press charges against him, AFP said.
Achraf Hakimi, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 from Inter Milan, has played 175 times for the Ligue 1 giants so far. He has won ten trophies so far with the Parisians and is the fifth-highest earner in the squad.
