2 Sonepat shopkeepers booked for encroachment, notices served on 10
Taking a stringent note against encroachers, the Sonepat police have booked two shopkeepers under various sections of the BNS and served notices on 10 shop owners for encroachment on roads.
The Sonepat police and the municipal corporation (MC), Sonepat, had jointly launched a special anti-encroachment drive on the city roads, especially where the traffic jam had become a chronic problem.
During a month-long drive, the traffic police in the city launched awareness programmes and pacified the shopkeepers to keep their goods inside their shop premises and not keep their goods on the roads.
The joint teams have carried out anti-encroachment drives on several roads from time to time and also sealed boards, hoardings and other goods the shopkeepers kept on the stretches. Scores of rehris, temporary shops, illegal structures from the roads have been removed.
Recently, the teams launched an anti-encroachment drive from the bus stand to Gandhi Chowk on the Sector14 road for the smooth flow of traffic.
But despite that, some shopkeepers didn’t pay any heed to the administrative directions, after which the MC served notices on 10 shopkeepers on Friday. As per the police, the MC has served notices on Baijnath, Satish, Pawan, Himanshu, Pankaj, Hunny, Mehar Singh, Manoj, Gautam and Shubham for encroaching the road.
The city traffic police have lodged complaints against two shopkeepers – one is a dhaba owner and another is a juice corner owner. Following the complaints, the Sector 27 police registered two separate cases against the violators under Section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Head Constable Surender, city traffic wing, in his complaint against Baijnath, owner of a dhaba, said he had encroached the road by keeping goods on it. The MC has also served notice on him.
HC Naresh of the city traffic wing filed a complaint against the owner of Sanjay Juice Corner in Sector 14 market for allegedly encroaching the road. The MC has also served notice on him.
Narender Kadyan, DCP, Traffic, said the anti-encroachment drive would be continued in the city and action initiated against those who kept their goods on the roads and parked their vehicles on the road sides. The efforts are being made so that there is smooth flow of traffic on the city roads, he said.
DCP Kadyan said notices had been served on the shopkeepers by the MC. Two cases were also registered against the shopkeepers for encroachment, he said.
Kadyan also appealed to the shopkeepers, businessmen and common people to not to encroach on the roads and support in making Sonepat a jam-free city.
