Operation Akhal continues for second day in J&K's Kulgam, 2 terrorists killed

Security forces are continuing their search operation in the forest areas of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam for the second day. Security personnel have gunned down two terrorists and are reportedly on the lookout for one more terrorist hiding in the area.

 

Security personnel from the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indian Army launched a search and cordon operation in Akhal forest area based on intelligence inputs about terrorists camping in the area on Friday.

 

Intense exchange of fire broke out on Friday night after terrorists opened fire on security forces. According to authorities, two terrorists have been killed in the operation os far and the anti-terror military operation is continuing.

 

The firing halted briefly on Friday night, and additional reinforcements were rushed to the area to strengthen the search and cordon operations. According to security officials, the identity and terror affiliations of the slain terrorists are being ascertained.

 

The anti-terror operation comes immediately after Operation Mahadev, when security officials gunned down three terrorists linked with the Pahalgam attack. Four terrorists with alleged Pakistani links killed 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. The deceased include 24 tourists, a Nepali citizen and a local horse owner.

 

India launched Operation Sindoor in the aftermath against Pakistan to avenge the killings. Three terrorists,  Suleiman, Afghani and Jibran in Operation Mahadev. They were killed while a discussion was underway in Parliament on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. 

India
