An Assam man who had gone missing after allegedly being slapped by a fellow passenger on an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata was found at a railway station in Barpeta in his home state.
According to reports, Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, 32, was slapped by a passenger after he suffered a panic attack on the flight. A native of Cachar district, he was supposed to take a connecting flight from Kolkata to Silchar, the district headquarters.
However, after a video of his panic attack and alleged assault went viral on social media, the man decided to take a train from Kolkata to Assam instead of catching the second flight.
In the video, an air hostess can be seen helping Mazumdar when he suffered a panic attack and taking him down the aisle. In between, a fellow passenger, identified as Hafijul Rahman, slapped him, saying he was creating “problems”.
Panic struck Mazumdar’s family as they could not reach him over the phone for hours after the flight landed in Silchar, where they were waiting for him.
According to them, Mazumdar, who works in a shop in Mumbai, was travelling home to meet his father, a cancer patient.
“They asked the airport authorities where he was, but they didn’t know. Since then, they had been trying to call him. His phone was ringing, but he was not answering. So we have informed the Katigorah police station,” Mazumdar’s uncle Joglu Mazumder told the Indian Express.
Meanwhile, Hafijul Rahman has been detained and handed over to the Kolkata Police after the flight landed in the city.
