Weather Update: Himachal Pradesh’s Mountain Roads Blocked by Continuous Landslides | ABP NEWS
The month of August has brought relentless rainfall and floods across northern India, wreaking havoc from the plains to the Himalayan foothills. After a destructive monsoon in June and July, the deluge continues with rivers swelling and landslides threatening lives and infrastructure. In Himachal Pradesh, the situation is critical. Bilaspur witnessed severe landslides near bridges, leading to road closures and warnings for locals to exercise caution. Chamba faced a flash flood caused by cloudbursts, washing away bridges and stranding vehicles midstream. Malana village and the Parvati Valley saw damage to hydroelectric projects and washed-away bridges, cutting off vital connections for residents who now trek dangerous mountain paths to reach their homes. The deadly pattern repeats in districts like Kullu, Mandi, and Kangra, where torrential rains have caused rivers to overflow and landslides to block highways. Flash floods have claimed over 150 lives this season, highlighting the increasing intensity of natural disasters due to climate change. Meanwhile, in the plains of Uttar Pradesh, the Ganga River has surged past danger levels, eroding riverbanks and swallowing houses, especially in Balrampur and Ballia. Residents are in panic as rivers threaten settlements, with many evacuating to safer grounds. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging people to stay vigilant as heavy rains are expected to persist.
