Nagpur man threatens to bomb Nitin Gadkari’s residence, arrested
Nitin Gadkari bomb threat: A man was arrested Sunday for threatening to bomb the Nagpur residence of Union minister Nitin Gadkari, police said, adding that the bomb threat later out to be a hoax. According to details, the accused, identified as Umesh Vishnu Raut, dialed the Nagpur city police city police control room on the 112 emergency number on Sunday morning, and issued a bomb threat to Gadkari’s Nagpur home, sending the authorities into a tizzy.
Following the threat call, the cops swung into action and traced the number from which the call was made. “During investigation, it was found that the mobile number was registered in the name of one Umesh Vishnu Raut, a resident of Tulsi Bagh Road near Vima Dawakhana in Sakkardara area of Nagpur city, said an official.
“Based on the mobile location and swift technical assistance, police detained Raut from the premises of the Vima Dawakhana. He was taken into custody for questioning and later formally placed under arrest by the crime branch,” he said, adding that the accused reportedly works at a country liquor shop.
The bomb threat call turned out to be a hoax, the police official said.
Senior officials said further investigation was underway to determine the motive behind the false alarm and to find out if the accused has any prior record of similar mischief.
A case has been registered against Raut, the police said.
