Since the arrival of Ruben Amorim as Manchester United's manager during the fag end of the 2024-25 season, the Portugese has been determined to execute his vision and tactical nous on a long-term basis. Which has meant the phasing out of players that don't suit his system and those who he feels aren't aligning to his plans as manager. Also, given United's overspending history in recent years, they also need to sell plenty of players to be in a position of financial stability to procure the signings Amorim wants.

Amidst all this, there are players who are unhappy with Amorim and the club for various reasons, and haven't hesitated to make those feelings public. Alejandro Garnacho is one of them as the young Argentine is allegedly feeling insecure about his future at the club, unlike fellow attacker Rasmus Hojlund who is determined to earn his spot despite uncertainties around both of them. If the latest reports are to be believed, Garnacho is hoping to make a move to Chelsea this summer, although the process may not be all that straightforward.

In the 2024-25 Premier League season, Garnacho had just six goals and two assists from 36 appearances - hugely underwhelming numbers and the Argentine's decision-making in attack was significantly below-par last season. There is no denying Garnacho's immense talent but his temperament has been an issue in crunch moments. At 21, he certainly has age on his side but Amorim realises that one of his young stars may be on his way out.

“Alejandro Garnacho is a really talented boy... but sometimes things don't work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is. It's clear he wants a different thing with a different leadership," said Amorim in an interview with BBC.

According to football analyst Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea's current priority is Xavi Simons and that could mean that Garnacho's dreams may not be fulfilled soon, unless he is willing to reduce his price significantly. Even if the winger does agree to do that, whether United would be in sync to that will be another matter. Still early days, but Garnacho to Chelsea still remains a big possibility.
