Korean horror thriller starring Indian actor from 'Squid Game' gears up for premiere
Anupam Tripathi as Anuat in 'Rhapsody for the Dead'
Korea-based Indian origin actor Anupam Tripathi, who played Ali Abdul aka Player 199 in Squid Game, will be seen in a lead role in the upcoming Korean horror thriller Rhapsody for the Dead, which is expected to hit theatres this month. A release date will be officially announced soon.
"My first Korean movie #Rapsodyforthedead as a lead actor is coming soon this month, in theatres. Frankly speaking, very nervous, excited and emotional about it. From no name in credits to first name in the credits, I can’t describe this feeling in words, I am just so grateful for everything happening for me... pure blessings of you all (sic)," he wrote on his Instagram page.
According to the official synopsis for the film written and directed by Kim Hyeon-joon, Rhapsody for the Dead deals with "occult horror" that revolves around a 25-year-old woman, Soo-ah, who, after witnessing a shocking incident that she was not supposed to, is chased by a "mysterious exorcist" named Anuat, played by Tripathi.
The film premiered earlier this year at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and is scheduled for theatrical release in Korea and five other Asian nations.
A Delhi-born actor who attended Korea National University of Arts, Tripathi is fluent in Hindi, English and Korean. Recently, he was also seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Netflix India series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, in which he played Ram Chandra Yadav, a RAW agent.
His Korean movie credits include the popular actioner Asura: The City of Madness. It must be noted that Rhapsody for the Dead is also known by its Korean title 'Changhon: Night of Salvation'.
