Birender Singh, son mobilise supporters as Congress finalises Haryana unit revamp

Even as the Congress high command works to finalise the list of district presidents in its ongoing reconstitution of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, senior party leader and former Union Minister Birender Singh, along with his son and former Hisar MP Brijendra Singh, convened a meeting of their supporters to mobilise and strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Birender Singh said the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the Congress in Haryana and keep the party active across the state. “We will soon begin holding meetings in Hisar, Jind, Kaithal, and Fatehabad districts, covering 15 Assembly constituencies,” he said.

He emphasised that the goal was not to rally behind any individual leader but to connect people with the party itself.

“In the last Assembly elections, it was seen that people were inclined towards Congress but lack of organisation could not translate into the desired results,” he said, adding that the campaign will start with meetings of three Assemblies to be held from August 20.

“There will be five meetings by September 15, with three constituencies covered in each,” he said.

Birender Singh, who previously served as a Union Minister in the Narendra Modi-led government before returning to the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, said key issues such as agriculture, unemployment, and the Agniveer scheme will be focal points of discussion with party workers and the public.

He also launched a sharp attack on the NDA government, claiming it has damaged India’s global standing. “The NDA government has brought the country to a point where India has no friends internationally. Even the neighbouring countries no longer stand with India,” he alleged.

On the question of forming an organisation of the state Congress unit, he said the list of office bearers is expected from the party leadership soon.

Former MP Brijendra Singh echoed similar sentiments and criticised the government over the unresolved issue of MSP guarantee.

He said the Prime Minister had mentioned MSP guarantee in his speech when he withdrew the three laws. “But it remained unresolved till now. Where is it now? Was any committee actually formed? Did it submit a report? No one knows,” he said.
