Path of neglect Chogan residents raise voice against civic apathy

Fed up with the negligence of the local civic body, residents of Ward No. 3 in the Chogan locality staged a protest today, demanding immediate repair of a slushy and unsafe pathway that has remained in poor condition for the past two weeks. The path, which connects over a hundred households and an electrical divisional office, has turned into a hazard for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders due to accumulated slush and filth, especially worsened by continuous rainfall.
Praveen Mahajan, Bimlesh, Pal and Arjun, local shopkeepers and residents, said a formal complaint had already been submitted to the Municipal Council (MC). Following this, the Assistant Engineer from the council visited and inspected the site on July 24. However, they were told that the issue lies in a grey area between National Highway 154 and MC Nurpur’s jurisdiction. A report was to be sent to the MC authorities, but no corrective action has been taken so far.
The residents further added that both the ward councillor and the MC president had been informed, yet the situation remains unresolved. “Every day, we risk slipping or getting injured. This has gone beyond inconvenience—it’s now a serious safety issue,” said a local.
In response, Rajesh Chowdhary, Assistant Engineer, MC Nurpur, confirmed that a report has been submitted and assured the public that the issue will be resolved in the next few days. However, locals remain sceptical, demanding not just promises but swift and permanent solutions.
