Water metro & glass bridge to boost tourism in Bilaspur dist

In a major step to promote Bilaspur as a key tourism destination in Himachal Pradesh, a high-level team led by Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar conducted a detailed survey from Mandi Bharari to Bhakra Dam. The focus was on exploring tourism infrastructure, including a proposed water metro service between Bhakra Ghat and Kosriya Ghat, offering the shortest route for pilgrims visiting Naina Devi and Baba Balak Nath temples.

The team also identified the Mandi Bharari area, overlooking the scenic Govind Sagar lake, as a potential site for constructing a glass bridge, aimed at attracting adventure tourists. The DC stated that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the bridge has been submitted to the Tourism Department, and construction will begin upon approval. The bridge will provide a thrilling experience and place Bharari as a prominent stopover for tourists heading to Shimla, Dharamshala, Chandigarh, Rohtang and Manali.

Additionally, plans are underway to develop modern way-side amenities at this junction, including rest areas, food courts and tourist information centres, to enhance visitor convenience. The DC also explored possibilities for water sports in Makarana village, noting that the region’s serene lakes and hilly terrain offer ideal conditions for recreational activities. The initiative aims to place Bilaspur firmly on the tourism map with sustainable and adventure-oriented attractions.
