Red alerts for Kerala, Uttar Pradesh as isolated heavy rainfall expected to continue till August 6: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday has predicted heavy rainfall for several states across the country over the coming days.
Kerala is among the states issued with a red alert for isolated heavy rainfall (more than 20cm) on August 5 and 6, in addition to Western areas of Uttar Pradesh. Within Kerala, as many as three districts have been issued a red alert, while Uttar Pradesh has seen more than 15 districts flooded.
The impact of dense clouds is being observed over West Uttar Pradesh, adjoining Uttarakhand, and some areas of Haryana. Meanwhile, dense cloud cover is also being observed over West Bengal, adjoining Jharkhand, some parts of northern Odisha, as well as interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
Certain swathes of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Mahe, coastal and Southern Karnataka are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall till August 8.
Orange alerts have also been issued in large numbers for the interior regions of Southern Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu due to anticipated heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, strong winds will continue to affect the Southern parts of the country.
Strong surface winds (reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h) are very likely over South Peninsular India during the next three days.
For Delhi-NCR, the forecast indicates generally cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.
The IMD has also predicted that certain parts of Western India are set to receive isolated heavy rainfall, such as Marathawada on August 6 and 7, Konkan and Goa on August 7 and 8 and central Maharashtra on August 8.
