One should not be surprised if a case could be filed against RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar. On Saturday, when he raised the issue that his name is missing from the draft list and said his EPIC is not available, the EC immediately countered his claim and said his name is very much in the draft list. It seems he is having two EPIC which is under investigation. Sources said if this is proved, the EC may file a case against him and he could be in trouble.

Goyal will emerge as the most powerful Chief Secretary of the Yogi era?

The newly appointed Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Shashi Prakash Goyal’s credibility and loyalty have made him indispensable to the CM. From advising on key postings to ensuring no political misuse of bureaucracy, he is seen as the CM's right hand. Some bureaucrats even claim, no one could challenge Goyal’s influence on the fifth floor of the state Secretariat. It is reminded that on the fifth floor of the state Secretariat, Chief Minister himself sits. Some others say, he is the bureaucrat who will emerge as the most powerful Chief Secretary of the Yogi era. However, Manoj Kumar Singh’s exit without extension is seen as a rare setback for the Yogi administration, especially when other bureaucrats like Durga Shankar Mishra and Amit Singh were granted multiple extensions.

Seniority crucial in SBK Singh’s appointment as Delhi CP

The appointment of Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh (SBK Singh) as Delhi Police Commissioner on August 1, 2025, marked a pivotal moment in the capital’s law enforcement landscape. The decision, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) just hours before the retirement of outgoing Commissioner Sanjay Arora, caught many by surprise, particularly as Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer, had been widely tipped as the frontrunner. Despite Golcha’s strong credentials and reported proximity to influential figures like Jammu and Kashmir DGP R.R. Swain, the MHA opted for Singh, a 1988-batch AGMUT cadre officer, highlighting the intricate interplay of seniority, cadre dynamics, and political considerations.

All eyes on Home Guards, Tihar Jail

Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh holds the DG Home Guards position in an additional capacity, but the Commissioner’s demanding role makes a new appointment imminent. A new DG is expected soon in Home Guards, with Nuzhat Hassan or Virender Singh Chahal likely to fill the role. Officers like Praveer Ranjan (1993-batch, ADG CISF) could be considered, depending on availability. In Tihar Jail Satish Golcha’s continuation is probable, but his performance and the 2026 transition will shape future decisions. If Golcha is moved (e.g., to a senior Delhi Police role post-Singh’s retirement), Hassan, Chahal, or other 1991–1993-batch AGMUT officers could step in. An external officer with prison reform experience is less likely but possible.
