NFR GM Inaugurates Two Newly Renovated Lawn Tennis Courts at Maligaon
Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), inaugurated two newly renovated outdoor lawn tennis courts at the NFR Sports Association (NFRSA) complex at Nambari, Maligaon on 30th July 2025. This marks a significant enhancement to the sports infrastructure of NFR and adds a new dimension to the NFRSA’s efforts towards promoting sports culture across the zone.
The newly renovated tennis courts meet international standards and have been upgraded with a multi-layered latex acrylic resin-based “cushioned” system. This high-performance surface provides enhanced elasticity, UV protection and player safety which is ideal for competitive and professional level tennis. These two outdoor courts, along with an existing indoor court, forms a comprehensive training platform for tennis enthusiast. NFRSA currently runs a Lawn Tennis Academy where 50 students are undergoing regular coaching. Many of these trainees have excelled at the national level, bringing laurels to the association by winning medals and securing rankings in various tournaments across the country.
Beyond tennis, NFRSA has also played a vital role in promoting a robust sporting ecosystem within NFR. In recent years, athletes from NFRSA have achieved both national and international acclaim. NFRSA runs over a dozen sports academies including athletics, boxing, swimming, cricket, football and archery, training nearly 2,000 plus athletes under the mentorship of accredited professional coaches. Infrastructural developments include upgraded indoor and outdoor stadiums, modern gymnasiums, synthetic tracks, a swimming pool, cricket practice halls and even physiotherapy and sports hostel facilities. These amenities are not only aimed towards building future champions but are also promoting wellness and physical fitness among employees and their families, extending the benefits of sports to the wider community.
