Hooda seeks Rs 50K/acre relief for farmers

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for the farmers as thousands of acres of agricultural fields have been submerged in many districts of Haryana, including Bhiwani, Rohtak, Hisar, Jind, Kurukshetra and Ambala, after the recent spell of rain.

“Farmers are facing huge losses. The government should get the girdawari done at the earliest and give a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre,” Hooda said while addressing a news conference here today.

“Not only villages and fields, but even the cities are also facing the problem of waterlogging as the government has failed to make timely arrangements. Neither the sewerage system in the cities, nor the drains in the villages were cleaned before monsoon,” he said.

Hooda said the Congress will raise issues related to agriculture, law and order, inflation, unemployment and increased collector rate in the upcoming monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha.

“The BJP government has directly increased the collector rates by 10 to 145 per cent, which will burden the poor and middle-class people and benefit the realtors,” he added.
