Opposition exposed itself during Op Sindoor debate: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the Opposition had “thoroughly exposed” itself during the Operation Sindoor debate in Parliament and must be regretting having demanded it.

He was addressing a meeting of the NDA parliamentary party, which later passed a resolution hailing PM’s leadership of Operation Sindoor.

The resolution praised Modi on multiple counts, including terming Indian military response on Pahalgam terror attack as Operation Sindoor in deference to the sensitivities of women who lost husbands in the attack, his focus on self-reliance and jointness of the armed forces, mounting a global outreach after the operation and for the recent US move to list Pahalgam perpetrators “The Resistance Front” as a foreign terrorist organisation.

Modi for his part said the Opposition shot itself in the foot during the debate in Parliament and hailed the stance NDA members took.

Describing the NDA as an organic alliance that had stood the test of time since it was founded in 1998, Modi praised Home Minister Amit Shah as the longest serving member of his Cabinet who had overtaken the ministerial tenure of LK Advani, a co-founder of NDA.

“This is just the beginning…there is a long way to go,” Modi said, with some MPs framing his comment in relation to Shah. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, however, said the Prime Minister meant that the NDA had a long way to go and many more successes to notch.

This was the first meeting Modi chaired of NDA MPs this year, the last being in July 2024 after he took oath as PM for the third time. During his remarks at the meeting where he was felicitated by all and garlanded by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Modi also took a veiled swipe at Rahul Gandhi after the apex court rapped the Leader of Opposition yesterday.

“Someone made juvenile and unsubstantiated assertions about the Indian territory and national security and the court rightly served him a lesson,” Modi said urging NDA allies to work together as one.

Modi noted that there were regions where allies were stronger than the BJP and stressed unity of the alliance at a time when the Congress-led Opposition INDIA is regrouping around voter roll revision in Bihar and the issue of tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump. The NDA resolution on Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev (which killed three Pakistani terrorists who perpetrated the Pahalgam attack), besides hailing the armed forces and PM also lauded the Opposition MPs who participated in the global outreach on the exercise.

“After Operation Sindoor, PM ensured 50 MPs from across parties visited 32 countries to present India’s point of view. This is one of the most comprehensive global outreaches ever launched by India highlighting how it has been a victim of terrorism. The participation of opposition MPs shows the maturity of Indian democracy and statesmanship of the PM who believes that in matters of national interest we are all together,” the resolution read.
