KU concludes multi-event sports fest

SRINAGAR, Aug 5: University of Kashmir (KU) wrapped up a vibrant series of sports events aimed at promoting fitness, well-being and campus engagement.
Organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), the multi-day initiative saw enthusiastic participation from students and staff across various campuses, aligning with the National Sports Policy 2025’s vision of making “sports a people’s movement.”
The sports series featured an Inter-Department Cycle Race, Inter-Department Volleyball Tournament (Men) and an Inter-Staff Table Tennis Tournament.
In the Inter-Staff Table Tennis Tournament, Prof Nisar Ahmad Khan from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences defeated Inam-ur-Rauf Malik from General Administration in straight sets to clinch the title. The Registrar of KU, Prof Naseer Iqbal, graced the occasion and highlighted the role of regular sports activities in improving workplace productivity and wellness.
The Inter-Department Volleyball Tournament (Men) witnessed participation from 22 departments. In the final clash, the Department of Electronics defeated the Department of Tourism, Hospitality & Leisure Studies by 3-1 sets to lift the title.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Department Cycle Race began from Nishat Garden and concluded at Rumi Gate, aimed at encouraging physical activity, promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transport, and fostering environmental consciousness.
In the women’s category, Hurrah Shah from the Department of Law won the gold medal, followed by Rashiya Bashir from the Department of Physical Education and Diya Masoodi from the Department of Management Studies, who bagged silver and bronze respectively.
In the men’s category, Kushnoor Farooq and Jahan Zaib Farooq, both from North Campus, secured gold and silver respectively, while Mir Riyaz ul Rashid from the Department of Management Studies clinched the bronze.
