Brief: 7 booked for murder bid

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked seven persons, including three women, on charges of murder bid and dowry harassment. The accused have been identified as Himanshu of Danewal village, his mother Gurbaksh Kaur, sisters Harpreet Kaur and Samayal, and his brother Aniket Baba Bagu of Gillan village and Dr Saleem of Bhadman village. Prabhjot Kaur of Eeda village has complained to the police that the accused tortured her for dowry. No arrests have been made and raids are being conducted to nab them. oc

Man booked for job fraud

Phagwara: On the basis of a complaint by Rajesh Mehra of Taj City, Hadiabad, near Phagwara, the police have registered a case against Arwind Kumar of Onkar Nagar, Phagwara. Kumar is accused of creating forged Scheduled Caste (SC) documents to obtain job under the reserved SC quota. The case is under investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made. oc

Phagwara: The Regional Passport Office (RPO), Jalandhar, has deployed its Passport Seva RPO Mobile Van at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala, to streamline passport application services for university students, faculty, and residents of nearby areas. The mobile van will be stationed at the entry gate of the university campus from August 6 to August 8, offering convenient access to people living nearby. oc

5 arrested under NDPS Act

Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar and City police have arrested two persons on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 57 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Sanni of Shankar village, and Rishu of Mohalla Kamalpura, Nakodar. The Mehatpur police also arrested Amandeep Singh, alias Raja, of Bute Dian Chhana village, with 27 tablets. The Lohian Khas police also arrested Harpreet Singh of Toti village in Kapurthala and Sarabjit Singh of Lakhan Khole village in Kapurthala, with 41 tablets. oc

2 arrested for youth’s murder

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested two miscreants on the charge of kidnapping and murdering a youth. The accused has been identified as Harjit Singh of Talwandi Sanghera village and Daljit Singh of Sadikpur village. Charan Singh of Mannakpur village had complained to the police that the accused had kidnapped his son, Pritam Singh (31), on March 15, 2024, and murdered him. oc
