Nicolas Jackson to Newcastle United as Benjamin Sesko prefer Manchester United: Report
Nicolas Jackson may leave Chelsea this summer | X
After Benjamin Sesko made his intentions to join Manchester United clear, Newcastle United have reportedly decided to track unsettled Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Eddie Howe is desperate to bring on board a quality striker, as Alexander Isak has revealed he would like to join Liverpool FC this summer. The manager rates the Senegalese Jackson highly as he brings with him Premier League experience and potential. Jackson, who is two years older than the 22-year-old Sesko, is concerned about his chances of making Chelsea's starting eleven following the arrivals of Liam Delap from Ipswich and João Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Earlier, some reports had claimed that Jackson's worry about losing his starting slot to the new recruits was not unfounded. He is not an 'untouchable' at Chelsea, and the London club has included him among the ten players available for transfer this summer.
While not yet in the same league as Ollie Watkins, Erling Haaland, or Alexander Isak, Jackson has registered 30 goals and 12 assists from 81 games across all competitions for Chelsea. Manchester United reportedly feel that his proven experience in the Premier League is not something to be overlooked.
Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in a £32 million deal in July 2023, is likely to cost NUFC no less than £80 million. Sky Sports said that Liverpool signing Hugo Ekitike for £79 million has convinced Chelsea that Jackson cannot be sold for a lesser rate. Thus, even though the £100 million demand has been shelved, the African striker will remain a costly option for potential bidders. Also in the mix is the fact that the FIFA Club World Cup winners are in no hurry to sell the star, as his current contract runs until 2033.
