Church of North India holds plantation drive

Expressing concern over the depleting tree cover in the region, Baring School, Ajnala, held a tree plantation drive to promote environmental sustainability and combat climate change.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, MLA Ajnala, and former Minister, Punjab, Arvinder Singh Arora, SDM, Ajnala, and Gurmukh Singh, Tehsildar, Ajnala, who also donated 200 plants, including fruit tree saplings to support the initiative, presided over the function.

Initiated by Manoj Charan, Bishop of the Diocese of Amritsar, Church of North India, tree plantation drive is likely to be held at several other places in the coming days.

Principal Mandeep Daniel said, “Our school is committed to caring for the environment. Hence, we encourage our students to plant a tree on their birthday and care for it, instead of distributing sweets. We believe that replenishing the depleting tree cover is a cause that warrants fast and sure action. As an institution, we are dedicated to environmental stewardship and promoting sustainability for a greener future.”

Daniel B Das, secretary of the Amritsar Diocesan Trust Association (ADTA), reaffirmed the diocese’s commitment to environmental stewardship, stating, “We will utilise every available space belonging to the diocese in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir to plant saplings, ensuring a greener future for generations to come.”

Addressing the gathering, Arvinder Singh Arora, SDM, Ajnala, lauded the efforts of Baring School, and the Diocese of Amritsar, CNI, at caring for the environment. He reiterated the commitment of the local administration to bolster tree cover in the district.

Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal laid stress on planting fruit and lemon trees and added that the need of the hour was to encourage people to plant more trees. He maintained that the government was committed to enhancing the state’s tree cover.
