Yo Yo Honey Singh, Karan Aujla issued notices for inappropriate lyrics in recent songs

Punjabi rappers Yo Yo Honey Singh and Karan Aujla are facing heat from the Punjab State Commission for Women, who are accusing the musicians of objectionable lyrics that demean women in their recent songs.

The Commission’s chairperson, Raj Lali Gill, filed a complaint to the Punjab Director General of Police, claiming that the song’s lyrics are “misogynistic” and “inappropriate”. “Those who use such language can’t be tolerated. These songs will be banned. Singers are the voice of society. On one hand, they say they love their mother, and on the other hand, they use such abusive language for mothers in their songs,” Gill stated, according to Hindustan Times.

The women’s panel has asked the DGP to assign a senior officer to immediately conduct an investigation or take action as per law in this regard. They have also informed the singers to be present at the commission's office on August 11. On the same day, the Commission expects a detailed report after a thorough investigation.

Yo Yo Honey Singh’s Millionaire has been flagged by the committee. Millionaire is part of his fourth studio album, Glory, which was released in 2024. It marked the actor’s comeback in the industry. His fifth studio album, 51 Glorious Days, is scheduled for release at the end of the month.

MF Gabhru, Karan Aujla’s latest single in collaboration with Canadian rapper Ikky, has also come under the scrutiny of the commission. Aujla had earlier faced similar allegations by the commission against his debut album Bacthafucup (B.T.F.U.) for comparing women to alcohol, drugs and guns in the song.
