Who is Tukaram Mundhe? Meet IAS Officer who has been transferred 23 times in 19 years, story is similar to Ashok Khemka, he is now posted as…

Honesty is the best policy. Civil servants who take an oath to serve the nation with dedication, commitment, and integrity embody this principle. They sign up for work that ultimately contributes to national public service and the nation’s future by implementing laws, policies, and programs. Civil servants pledge to adhere to the strictest standards of honesty and trustworthiness. However, even the most honest of civil servants are not immune to petty politics and excessive transfers. One such person is Maharashtra IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe.

Who is Tukaram Mundhe? Why has he been transferred 23 times in 19 years?

Earlier on Tuesday, the Maharashtra government, in a minor reshuffle, transferred five bureaucrats. Tukaram Mundhe (IAS: RR: 2005), Development Commissioner (Un-organised Labour), Mumbai, has been posted as Secretary, Divyang Kalyan Department, Mantralaya, Mumbai.

In his 19-year career, Tukaram Mundhe has been transferred 23 times. Known for always being in the spotlight, Tukaram Mundhe has now been transferred to the position of Secretary of the Department of Divyang Kalyan in the ministry.

Hailing from Beed district in Maharashtra, Tukaram Mundhe is known as a sharp and honest officer. People have appreciated him for his work style, but he is also recognized as a strict disciplinarian, particularly among staff. He is reported to have frequent clashes with some politicians. It is believed that these factors have led to his repeated transfers.

Usually, IAS or IPS officers serve at a posting for at least two to two and a half years, notwithstanding that Mundhe has not had this luxury, as he has been transferred often in short succession. In the most recent order, the Maharashtra government of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis transferred five IAS officers, including Tukaram Mundhe.

Born on June 3, 1975, in Tadsona village of Beed district, Maharashtra, Tukaram Mundhe joined the civil services in 2005. Speaking about his educational qualifications, Mundhe holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Master’s degree in Political Science. He belongs to the Vanjari community, which is classified under the OBC category in Maharashtra, reported NavBharat Times.

He has received multiple awards, including the Best Collector award and the ‘Waterman of Maharashtra’ award. Munde is known as “The Man of a Mission” and completed his early education in a Zilla Parishad school and studied in Aurangabad at the college level. His first posting was in Solapur, where his operations there made him a star for raiding illegal liquor dens. Over the years, Munde has been confronted by multiple threats, and has reveled in media attention while busting sand mafias.

It is to be noted that Tukaram Mundhe’s story is similar to Ashok Khemka’s, as both officers are known for their honesty and strict work ethic, which has often led to frequent transfers. Like Khemka, Mundhe has faced several challenges and postings as a result of standing firm on principles and taking tough decisions.
