Insult of tricolour will not be tolerated: CM
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said the Congress would not tolerate insult of the tricolour. He said all those involved in such disrespectful act would be punished.
Talking to mediapersons here today after his four-day visit to Delhi, the CM said: “It is duty of every individual to respect the tricolour. An FIR has been registered against those who insulted the national flag. Those who are innocent will be spared and their name will be removed from the FIR after investigation.”
Responding to a query on the BJP accusation that the state government had filed FIR against people of Seraj, who had been hit by disaster, the CM said the manner in which the BJP insulted the tricolour in the Seraj area of Mandi district was wrong.
“It does not behove the BJP and its leaders to fling shoes at the vehicle of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, which had the national flag on it. The minister was sitting inside his official vehicle after giving a patient hearing to the people,” said Sukhu.
Following demonstration by the BJP workers during the visit of Revenue Minister to Seraj, the police registered an FIR against at least 60 people. The BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, held a demonstration in Mandi, two days ago, demanding withdrawal of the FIR against people who had lost everything due to the devastation caused by a cloudburst on the night of June 30.
