Delayed rakhis, Canadian postal strike leaves Punjabi brothers and sisters disappointed

Punjabi youths settled in various provinces of Canada are upset that Rakhis sent by their sisters through the post have not reached them yet.

Sisters, at the same time, were also somber as their enthusiasm to see their brothers tying Rakhis of their choice on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan was dampened.

The ongoing strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers was found to be the major reason behind the delayed delivery or non-receipt of parcels.

More considerate women did not hesitate to shell out extra money to see Rakhis delivered to their brothers by availing the services of international agencies and organisations.

Kamlesh Rani of Green Avenue said her son, Lovepreet Sharma, settled in Canada, had received only one of three parcels sent by her nieces from three different cities, including Patiala, Ludhiana, and Ahmedgarh.

“Though my nieces settled in various places had posted parcels over two weeks ago, only one parcel reached my son, and the other two are still on the way,” said Kamlesh Rani, maintaining that the ongoing strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers was cited as the main reason behind the non-delivery of parcels through the post.

Sarswati Sharma of Subhash Nagar Ahmedgarh regretted that she had to spend extra money to see her cousin, staying in Brampton, Canada, tie a Rakhi, solemnized at their temple, on his wrist on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
