St Joseph’s Hr Sec School Baramulla hosts Annual Sports Meet

BARAMULLA, Aug 9: St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, was abuzz with energy and enthusiasm as it hosted its Annual Sports Meet, witnessing record participation from nearly 1,200 students of Classes 2 to 5. The event was held in two sessions-morning for Classes 4 & 5 and evening for Classes 3 & 2-transforming the school grounds into a hub of athletic excitement.
The day began with an inspiring address by Principal Suresh Britto, who highlighted the importance of sports in nurturing resilience, leadership, and the spirit of fair play among students.
The event was graced by Altaf Ahmad Khan (DySP Baramulla) and Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi (Additional Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla) as chief guests. Their presence boosted the morale of the students. Syed Owais Geelani (SHO Baramulla) and Farhana Showkat (Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Baramulla) were the guests of honour and praised the school’s efforts in promoting physical education.
Altaf Ahmad Khan addressed the gathering on the vital role of sports in combating drug abuse among youth and encouraged students to pursue healthy lifestyles. The guests of honour commended the discipline, energy and team spirit displayed by the students.
The event featured various track and field events, fun races and engaging competitions. Highlights included a Tug of War for male parents and a lemon-and-spoon race for female parents, promoting community involvement. The day concluded with the medal and certificate distribution, celebrating student achievements and reaffirming the school’s commitment to holistic development.
