Netflix renews live-action 'One Piece' for Season 3, reveals sneak peek of Season 2

A third season of the live-action series One Piece was announced by Netflix at this year's One Piece Day celebration event in Tokyo. Meanwhile, the streamer also simultaneously unveiled a sneak peek of Season 2.

Filming of the third season will commence this fall in Cape Town, South Africa. Ian Stokes, currently co-executive producer of the show, is coming on board to work with Joe Tracz as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

Based on Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga series of the same name, One Piece tells the tale of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), an ambitious young pirate who, in the hopes of being named the next 'King of Pirates', sets about on a treasure hunt along with its crew christened 'Straw Hats' comprising swordsman Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), cartographer Nami (Emily Rudd), storyteller Usopp (Jacob Romero), and chef Sanji (Taz Skylar).

The show's title comes from 'One Piece', the treasure in the possession of Luffy's rival, Gold Roger (Michael Dorman). Season 2 is slated for a 2026 release window. According to the official synopsis, the new season will have the principal characters taking on more challenging adversaries and dangerous terrains.

"Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line — a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies," says the synopsis.

Joe Tracz, co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer of the second season with Matt Owens, has previously worked on fantasy and adventure series like A Series of Unfortunate Events and Percy Jackson and the Olympians
