An old video clip of US President Donald Trump has resurfaced, wherein he was heard making light of  the rape case against boxer Mike Tyson. The 1992 clip is from Trump’s appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, which aired a year after 19-year-old beauty queen Desiree Washington filed a complaint against Mike Tyson for raping her inside his hotel room.

Trump, when asked about the crime that took place when Desiree was 18, said the punishment meted out to Tyson was “ridiculous”, in reference to the court sentencing the boxer to six years in prison for the rape.

The President then goes on to add that Desiree had been “dancing for Tyson” and that the crime took place late at night. “Mike Tyson should supply millions and millions and millions of dollars to rape victims, and I think that’s a hell of a lot better than him sitting in a jailhouse for six years,” the future president says. “Mike should serve some time and everything else, but to keep a man… here’s a woman that was dancing at his door at one o’clock in the morning. Dancing.”

He brings up the topic again during another show, The Charlie Rose Show, wherein he casts doubts on Washington’s claims about the rape. “She was raped, perhaps, perhaps not.”

Multiple X accounts reposted the video, drawing comments. One user said: “Monstrous. Trump sided with a rapist and trashed the victim — like it was a sport. This isn’t just misogyny. It’s who he’s always been. On tape. Proud of it.”

Another wrote: “Ah yes, classic Trump logic: If a teenage girl exists after midnight, she must be asking for it. This isn’t just disgusting, it’s who he’s always been. Stop acting shocked.”

Both Trump and Tyson share a warm bond, with the latter openly supporting Trump’s Presidential run. Before the 2016 election, Tyson told Huffington Post, "He should be president of the United States. Hell yeah, big time!".

Interestingly, the clips resurface as Trump battles the Epstein scandal. After reports hinted Trump was a client of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, the President has been accused of diverting attention from the subject by raising allegations about former President Barack Obama.
